SEP Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems (CPEnMS) will assist facilities in implementing ISO 50001 energy management standard.

SEP Performance Verifier will assess a manufacturing plant's conformance to the (1) measurement and verification protocols and (2) energy performance improvement levels defined by the SEP program.

SEP Lead Auditor will assess a manufacturing plant's management system conformance to ISO 50001 and additional SEP requirements. These additional requirements are documented in ANSI MSE 50021.

Superior Energy Performance

Superior Energy Performance (SEP) is a market-based, ANSI/ANAB-accredited certification program that provides industrial and commercial facilities with a roadmap for achieving continual improvement in energy efficiency while maintaining competitiveness. The program will provide a transparent, globally accepted system for validating energy performance improvement and management practices. Superior Energy Performance is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and will launch nationally in 2012.

The goals for SEP include:

  • * Drive continual improvement in energy performance
  • * Develop a transparent system to validate energy performance improvements and management practices
  • * Encourage broad participation throughout industry
  • * Support and build the energy efficiency market and workforce

A central element of Superior Energy Performance is implementation of the ISO 50001 energy management standard, with additional requirements to achieve and document energy performance improvements. All industrial and commercial facilities pursuing certification must demonstrate an improvement in energy performance. This program will provide companies with a framework for fostering energy-efficiency at the facility level and a methodology for measuring and validating energy efficiency/performance improvements.

Superior Energy Performance is designed to encourage participation among industrial and commercial facilities of all sizes and levels of experience in managing energy. The program offers flexibility by offering two tiers — self-declared and ANSI/ANAB certified — depending on the degree of data validation desired by a plant. In addition, the program will emphasize program transparency through measurement and verification of energy performance improvement and savings.
