Certification Program Overview
The U.S. Council for Energy-Efficient Manufacturing (U.S. CEEM) is positioning the U.S. industry as a global leader in energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and guides the development of Superior Energy Performance. As part of this effort, the Institute for Energy Management Professionals (IEnMP) was created. IEnMP is a non-profit organization, funded by the Department of Energy, existing to provide certifications to individuals in support of the Superior Energy Performance (SEP) initiative. The certifications offered by IEnMP encompass the following areas:
Certified Practitioner in Energy Management Systems (CP EnMS)
Certified Practitioners in Energy Management Systems provide assistance to industrial and commercial facilities in conforming to the requirements of the ISO 50001 plus additional Superior Energy Performance requirements. These practitioners will be facility personnel, consulting professionals, or service providers with the appropriate technical experience. This certification is currently offered for the industrial sector, and other sectors, such as commercial and transportation will be added in the future.
SEP Performance Verifier
SEP Performance Verifiers will assess a manufacturing plant's conformance to the (1) measurement and verification protocols and (2) energy performance improvement levels defined by the SEP program.
SEP Lead Auditor
SEP Lead Auditors will assess a manufacturing plant’s management system conformance to ISO 50001 and additional SEP requirements. These additional requirements are documented in ANSI MSE 50021.
